We are called by the Lord to be “merchants” in search of pearls. Pearls represent truths from the Lord’s Word, and the pearl of great price stands for knowledge about the Lord Himself. The Lord plants within us a longing called in the Writings for the New Church “the affection for truth.” The more we search in the Word, or talk with others in an effort to discover the great truths about life, the more the Lord will be able to bless us with wisdom. We will come to discover in growing ways what leads to lasting happiness, and feel called to turn to the Lord as the one who can lead us to experience it.
