Abram’s daring rescue of his nephew, Lot (who had been taken captive by the kings of the north), is followed immediately by Melchizedek, priest and king of Salem, bringing out “bread and wine”" to the weary victors (v. 18). This pre-cursor to the Holy Supper pictures the peace that comes after conflict, and how the Lord “refreshes us” (AC 1726).
