Peter symbolizes our faith, our understanding of the Lord and those times when we wrestle with our faith. John symbolizes good works. James symbolizes inner love. These two are brothers. In the beginning of the gospels, Peter was the most important of the disciples, just like the thinking part of our mind plays a bigger role in beginning of our spiritual lives.
