Prophecy... Christmas is Coming!
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - November 28, 2021
Christmas is coming! Waiting can be hard, but the anticipation can also be exciting. And yes, we have waited all year. But how long did people wait for the very first Christmas? And what exactly are we wating for? Come and see! | By Rev. Pearse M. Frazier | Bryn Athyn CathedralHope, Faith, and Laughter
Worship Service: Sermon only - November 28, 2021
What is the Lord trying to tell you about Himself, about others, or even about yourself when He said "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh." (Luke 6 :20-21). This pre-Christmas season service considers how the Lord speaks to all of us, calling us to have hope, and faith, and yes, laughter. | By Rev. Pearse M. Frazier | Bryn Athyn CathedralThanksgiving

As Jacob journeyed far from home he made a promise to God. Jacob said that if God took care of him and returned him safely, then the Lord would be his God and he would give 10% of what he gained to God in thanks. What do you hope to receive from the Lord? For what are you grateful? | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralJacob's Vow - Being Thankful
Worship Service: Sermon only - November 21, 2021
Gratitude is a wonderful feeling. The Lord invites us to open our eyes to see something of the magnificent care He provides for our lives. The internal sense of Jacob's vow to God is a reminder of the prayer we can have that the Lord lead and bless us. | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralHoly Ground

Week 4 of the Journey program "Tell Me More". In the Parable of the Good Samaritan the Lord presents a scenario in which the listener is invited to consider who was neighbor toward the man who fell among theives - the priest, Levite or Samaritan. The first two "passed by" on the other side but the third stopped and "had compassion" (Luke 10:33). Sometimes our compassion toward others is spontaneous, at other times it's not - why is that and what can we do to be more consistent? | By Rev. Derek P. If the Lord offered to give you whatever you wanted, what would you ask for? The Lord did make this offer to King Solomon and he asked for someting very surprising, but incredibly valuable. Learn what it was and how we can learn to use the same gift. (1 Samuel 3:5-15) | By Rev. Barry C. Halterman | Bryn Athyn CathedralListening with Humility

When we hear people say things we don't like or things we disagree with it is easy to fall straight into judgment moade. In Week 2 of our new Journey series, "Tell Me More," we consider the story of the Lord's visit to the home of tow sisters, Mary and Martha. As Martha rushes around getting things ready for her Guest, she complains that she's having to do all the housework herself while Mary just sits there listening to the Lord (see Luke 10:38-42). We are, of course, tempted to side with Martha - she has a point - but the Lord's response reveals a "missing ingredient" that an easily overlooked. Pharoah's daughter had eyes to see a basket floating among the reeds and ears to hear baby Moses crying and responded with compassion. The Lord also wants us to be able to listen to others so that we can be wisely kind to them. | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralListening with Awareness
Worship Service: Sermon only - October 17, 2021
This week we begin a new Journey series on listening, "Tell Me More". Being wisely kind to others involves listening to them. It is hard to be helpful if you don't know what another person is thinking and why. In Exodus 2 we read about how Pharoah's daughter noticed a basket floating at a distance. Sensing its potential importance, she had a servant get it, finding the baby Moses within. Her seeing, listening, and responding were essential for the Lord's plan to lead the Israelites out of slavery. The "Tell Me More" series runs from October 17 to November 7, 2021. | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralA Man Born Blind
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - October 10, 2021
The gospel of John records the remarkable account of a man born blind receiving sight from the Lord. But what happens after the miracle is even more astonishing. It shows the formerly blind man's process of discovery as he moves from thinking Jesus is merely a man, to thinking He must be some kind of prophet, to realizing He came from God. This journey of discovering who Jesus really is parallels our own. | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralOur Journey of Faith
Worship Service: Sermon only - October 10, 2021
"True Christianity" 538 says "unless God is approached in thought as a Person, all ideas of God perish." The formerly blind man is ruthlessly attacked by the Pharisees as they work to discredit the miracle, and when the man finally blurts out that Jesus must come from God or be God, he is excommunicated. In a similar way, the hells and secular society work to discredit our belief in God (and the Word). From being born "blind" we receive "sight" and then the real test begins - is Jesus God or not? Or put another way, in whom or what is our ultimate authority? | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralCreating True Spiritual Impact in a Troubled World

Candidate Steven Gunther. The parable of the rich man and Lazarus from Luke 16 can help us see the value in listening to the Lord and doing the work He calls us to do. If we push it off until some later time, we will only make it harder for us to do the right thing. | By Steven Gunther | Bryn Athyn CathedralAre You Convinced?
Worship Service: Sermon only - October 03, 2021
Candidate Steven Gunther. What does it take for us to believe something is true? We will look at the parable of the rich man and Lazarus to see what it really means to be convinced by something, especially the things that Lord teaches us in the Word. | By Steven Gunther | Bryn Athyn CathedralWhat Do You Expect?
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - September 26, 2021
Our lives are built upon expectations. The Lord has gifted us with the capacity to "project" whatever kind of future we desire but we also know that our hopes and dreams don't necessarily materialize in the way we had hoped. The Lord's Word has a wonderful way of shifting our perspective, of re-aligning and restoring our expectations. We will use the Lords' words from Mt. 10:34 to illustrate this point. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword." | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralGreat Expectations
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - September 26, 2021
One of the biggest challenges in life is learning how to interpret setback and disappointment. Everyone, young and old, has high ideals, a strong sense of how things "should" be, but the school of "hard knocks" tells a different narrative. How we deal with loss and defeat, and how we view underlying causes, will do a lot to reshape our future. The Lord's Word records a number of incidents and events in which people expect one thing but are shown something quite different. Most of us don't like surprises but in the case of the Lord's surprises, these are often just what we need! | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralSlaying the Amalekites
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - September 19, 2021
Throughout the Old Testament, the Amalekites are a persistent enemy of the children of Israel. They were desert nomads who hid in the mountains and chose to attack and prey upon people when they were the most vulnerable. This is why they were an enemy that the Lord said should be blotted out completely and utterly destroyed. We will look at how we can prepare ourselves to fight against such a ruthless enemy. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. Heinrichs | Bryn Athyn CathedralSlaying the Amalekites
Worship Service: Sermon only - September 19, 2021
Throughout the Old Testament, the Amalekites are a persistent enemy of the children of Israel. They were desert nomads who hid in the mountains and chose to attack and prey upon people when they were the most vulnerable. They represent in us the "falsity arising from interior evil" which remains hidden and only seeks to confuse and entrap us in our weakest states. That is is why they were an enemy that the Lord said should be blotted out completely and utterly destroyed. We will look at how we can prepare ourselves to fight against such a ruthless enemy. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. Heinrichs | Bryn Athyn Cathedral
