The God Who Answers By Fire
Worship Service: Chapel Talk - October 28, 2009
"The God who answers by fire, He is God." (1 Kings 18:24) Elijah challenged King Ahab to a great contest. They would both sacrifice a bull on an altar, but they would kindle no fire. Instead, Elijah proposed that "The God who answers by fire" would be the true god. | By Rev. Dr Thane P. Glenn | Bryn Athyn CathedralPart 4-Fire From Heaven

Everything was going well in Zarephath. The flour and the oil did not run out. The widow and her son had plenty of cakes to eat. But the celebration of the miracle did not last long. The widow's son fell ill and was close to death. Elijah carried the dying boy to an "upper room" and brought him back to life. What was so special about that upper room? Worship Service: Chapel Talk - September 30, 2009
We know that the Lord is a living being, a human being. He is not a book. Yet we know Him through His written Word. (The teachings of the New Church are quite strong on this point.) Why does the Lord do it this way? Why does He not reveal himself to us in visions, dreams, and living interactions? (Hasn't He done that with people at times?) Are books a rather dry and indirect way to know God? Wouldn't the Lord have more and better relationships with people, if He only communicated with us in a more personal and lively way? | By Rev. Worship Service: Chapel Talk - September 23, 2009
A story: Last week I accepted an invitation to play nine holes of golf. One of my partners was 90 years old, and he out shot every one of us. His method was simple. A very easy swing, and a mental focus which said, &"Keep it in the middle." No slicing to the right and no hooking to the left. In this talk, we will see how this might apply to our spiritual lives. "Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all that Moses my servant commanded you; Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go." Worship Service: Chapel Talk - September 16, 2009
Leprosy is a skin disease. Just as skin is the out most part of our body, the literal sense of the Word is the out most part of Scripture. Therefore, to be in a spiritually "leprous condition" is to have mistaken ideas about the literal sense of the Word. College is a time when there is lots of discussion about important ideas --including the application of Scripture to our lives. This also means that there will be disagreements-- different ways of understanding what Scripture teaches. How can the Lord heal our differences, even when we disagree with each other? | By Rev. Dr Andrew M. Dibb | Bryn Athyn CathedralA Free Will Offering
