A New Name
Worship Service: Informal Family - September 08, 2024
Partially inspired by the baptism which will be happening today, we will be talking about being given a new name by the Lord. It’s useful to reflect on the ways that we think about ourselves - the names and labels that we take on. What name would the Lord like to give you and how can you work with Him to become the person He created you to be? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn Cathedral UndercroftYou Are Holy
Worship Service: Informal Family - August 18, 2024
It's a simple statement, and might seem strange for some, but obvious for others. Throughout the Word, we see the Lord connecting with people about holiness, telling them they are on holy ground, or in the presence of holiness, or will receive the Holy Spirit. So what is holiness, and how are you holy? | By Rev. Pearse M. Frazier | Bryn Athyn Cathedral UndercroftStability and Change
Worship Service: Informal Family - October 01, 2023
Elijah experienced a violent windstorm, an earthquake, and a raging fire, and then heard the Lord in a still, small, voice. (1 Kings 19) The Lord gives us stability during times of change, but is also the one who makes all things new. | By Rev. John L. Odhner | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallTreasures in Heaven
Worship Service: Informal Family - July 23, 2023
As with so many of the Lord’s teachings, this one contains several layers of meaning for our lives, beyond not setting our hearts too heavily on the physical treasures of this world. Spiritual treasures include the Lord’s Word, blessings from Him, generosity and an eternal perspective. | By Rt. Rev. Peter M. Buss, Jr. | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallRemember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
Worship Service: Informal Family - May 28, 2023
What does it mean to remember the Sabbath? Is it about going to church every week? Or is there more to it than that? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Power of Stones
Worship Service: Informal Family - April 16, 2023
“Upon this rock I will build my church.” (Matthew 16:18) “Roll away the stone.” (John 11:39) “And he selected five smooth stones from the brook.” (I Samuel 16:40) Rocks and stone – they show up everywhere in the Word, from Genesis to Revelation. How can a stone carry such importance? What do they mean and how can they help us? | By Rev. Grant R. Schnarr | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Four Rivers of Eden
Worship Service: Informal Family - October 09, 2022
One of the features of the Garden of Eden is that it has four rivers (Genesis 2:10-14). What do these four rivers represent in our spiritual lives? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallTruth or Bias
Worship Service: Informal Family - July 24, 2022
The Lord’s Word is full of truth given to us to make our lives, and the world, better. How is it that two people can go to Word and still disagree? How do people take these beautiful teachings and use them to cause harm? We all know how easy it can be to listen and learn with a bias that holds us back from a better understanding. What does the Word teach us about bias, its effects, and how to overcome it?" | By Rev. Richard M. Glenn | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallFeeding the 4000
Worship Service: Informal Family - November 21, 2021

| By Rev. Michael D. Gladish | Mitchellville, MDThe Lord heals a boy with a mute spirit
Worship Service: Informal Family - November 22, 2020
The Lord heals a boy with a mute spirit. The Heavenly Doctrine teaches that each character in the Sacred Scripture tells us something about our own spiritual lives. So how then, are we like the disciples or even the Scribes in this story? How can we be like the boy who needs healing? In the story, the Lord gives us a very simple answer to the way we find healing through Him. | By Rev. Justin Schorran | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Horses among the Myrtle Trees
Worship Service: Informal Family - August 09, 2020
The horses and their riders were waiting among the myrtle trees in the hollow, having returned from a tour of the land. They reported that the land was resting quietly, but this is not what Zechariah wanted to hear. | By Rev. Jeremy F. Simons | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallGiving Up What Is Not Ours to Carry

Worship Service: Informal Family - August 18, 2019
This Sunday we’ll be having another “service” service. We did this two years ago. The service will not have a preacher or a talk. Instead, the service will be focussed on all of us doing useful things. “Worship of the Lord actually consists in useful behavior” (Secrets of Heaven 7038). We’ll start with some songs and open the Word, and have a short time for prayer and some readings. But we’ll spend most of our time having a “work party.” People can choose between various jobs including: organizing the costume cupboard, making new candle holders for the Christmas midnight service, sharpening pencils, organizing the altar-making materials, organizing props, sorting through the songbooks, cleaning chairs that need it, etc. We’ll close the morning with closing of the Word, and discussion. | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallYou Aren't What You Eat
Worship Service: Informal Family - June 02, 2019
The Lord taught that what goes into us does not make us spiritually unclean, but what comes out of us does. Does it matter what we consume for entertainment or who our children’s friends are then? This Sunday we will explore the impact our mental food and our environments could have on us. | By Rev. Jeffrey Smith | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Sibling Rivalry of Goodness and Truth
Worship Service: Informal Family - May 12, 2019
Genesis chapter 25 describes the birth and early life of the twins, Jacob and Esau. These siblings don’t always get along very well. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallWe are all Children
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - March 31, 2019
When the great king Solomon prayed for wisdom in 1:Kings 3:7 he declared himself "a little child," not knowing how to go out or come in. In fact, we are all little children in the Lord's eyes. We explore what this really means and why our acknowledgement of that fact is so important. - MDG The children's talk is based on selections from Joshua:9 on the treaty with the Gibeonites. | By Rev. Michael D. Gladish | Mitchellville, MDSorting Out Our Motives
Worship Service: Sermon only - March 24, 2019

Worship Service: Informal Family - March 03, 2019
In Genesis chapter two, Adam named the animals that the Lord created. What does “naming the animals” symbolize in our spiritual life? And how does this relate to emotional intelligence? After this, Eve was created. What does she symbolize in our spiritual life? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman Hall
