Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream, that there would be seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine, meant that the land of Egypt had time to prepare for this eventual hardship (Genesis 41). If “famine” is a hardship we can expect, what steps might we take to better prepare for it? The happy reunion of Joseph and his brothers wouldn’t have happened without the famine. This story gives us a wonderful glimpse into the workings of the Lord’s providence. | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralAnticipating the Famine

What is the most unique thing about the New Church? Maybe our teachings on marriage? Maybe our view of the afterlife? These are certainly distinct teachings, but other religions believe in an afterlife, even if the details are different. Other religions have wisdom to share about marriage, even if the specifics are diverse. No, the most distinct difference in the New Church is that we teach that the Second Coming not only will happen, but has already happened. | By Rev. Calvin Heinrichs | Westville, RSAWhat is Charity

1st Lesson: John 13:34-35 2nd Lesson: True Christian Religion 459:2,13-17 (parts) Talk: “Act with Judgment from a Love of Justice” | By Rev. Lawson M. Smith | Kempton, PADeveloping a Strong Faith
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - February 04, 2024
The beginning of the service will start with the rite of confirmation where a young adult will confess her faith. Afterwards, the talk will focus on how to develop a strong faith that is rock solid and can withstand the attacks from hell. In the gospels, the disciple Peter is a symbol for faith, so we will look at some of the lessons we can learn from Peter’s attitude and actions. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. The sermon will focus on how to develop a strong faith that is rock solid and can withstand the attacks from hell. In the gospels, the disciple Peter is a symbol for faith, so we will look at some of the lessons we can learn from Peter’s attitude and actions. It is interesting to see how insightful his faith is at times, and yet often his fake appears to be fickle and weak. There are many lessons to learn about how our faith progresses and develops over time. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. Heinrichs | Bryn Athyn CathedralTrue Humility

Jesus told a parable about two people who were praying (Luke 18). One gave thanks that he was better than other people; the other would not even raise his eyes to heaven, but simply asked for mercy. How can we recognize our immense need for mercy and forgiveness without giving in to despair? | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Bryn Athyn Cathedral UndercroftRemember the Sabbath Day
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - February 04, 2024
A survey was conducted on how well people knew the 10 Commandments. The findings were a little depressing. Most people were unable to name half of them. However, there was an interesting similarity in almost every response. The one commandment that was almost universally forgotten was the Commandment to Remember the Sabbath. On Sunday, we will explore this Commandment and what it means to keep the Sabbath. | By Rev. Calvin Heinrichs | Westville, RSAWhat Hell is Like

Worship Service: Family (may include music) - January 28, 2024
There are many stories in the Old Testament about the Philistines. They were the main enemy of the children of Israel in the time of heroes like Samson, Saul, and David. They were a powerful and persistent enemy, and yet they could be defeated. What do the Philistines represent within us and what can the Lord’s Word teach us about how to fight against them? Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 28, 2024
If you are rich, what are your obligations to the poor? If you are poor, how should you view those richer than you? The Lord in the Gospels teaches us about wealth and poverty and the Teachings for the New Church build on those concepts to help us understand how Christians ought to view these things. | By Rev. The mysterious incident of Jacob “wrestling” with God all night speaks to an important principle – as much as we may try to avoid spiritual pain and suffering, these struggles are nevertheless the mechanism which enables us to grow and mature. Jacob’s new name carries the idea of being tied up with God’s purposes. How do we become more “tied up” with God’s purposes? | By Rev. Derek P. “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” (John 12:32) The Lord's Love is a powerful, attractive force that draws us all upwards towards Him in heaven. Yet we often get dragged down in life, sometimes by our own doings and sometimes by others. How can we better work with the Lord to remove the heavy burdens of life and be lifted up by Him? | By Rev. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 21, 2024
Last week we looked at how we need to adjust our view of people who commit evil: we must bring charity to bear, so that we can focus on the good. This week we will look at what we can actually do to stop or amend the evil. This is a tricky endeavour: on the one hand, we can have a great deal of influence or even control over how other people behave; on the other hand, we are often powerless to change someone’s behaviour, and although we can influence and encourage people to change, we have no power whatsoever to actually change them. | By Rev. King Josiah initiated the biggest reform and covenant renewal his country had ever seen. Amongst his reforms was the reinstatement of the Passover which had not been held in Jerusalem “since the days of the judges” (2 Kings 23:22). We will be considering the benefits of a covenant and why our covenant with the Lord is something that needs to be revisited and “renewed” on a regular basis. | By Rev. Derek P. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 14, 2024
How should we react when someone does something evil? One of the more shocking Teachings of the New Church is that we should do everything in our power to excuse them! Yet how can we excuse what is clearly unacceptable (or even inexcusable)? It takes real effort to understand someone, and love them even at their worst, but it is an effort that we are all called to make. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAFeeding the Five Thousand

With just five loaves of bread and two fishes the Lord fed 5000 very hungry people till they were all full, with 12 baskets of food left over. The food represents His goodness and truth, which He gives abundantly to all who seek it. Our service will offer an abundant feast that will include Holy Supper. | By Rev. John L.
