Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - October 02, 2016
We are called by the Lord to be “merchants” in search of pearls. Pearls represent truths from the Lord’s Word, and the pearl of great price stands for knowledge about the Lord Himself. The Lord plants within us a longing called in the Writings for the New Church “the affection for truth.” The more we search in the Word, or talk with others in an effort to discover the great truths about life, the more the Lord will be able to bless us with wisdom. We will come to discover in growing ways what leads to lasting happiness, and feel called to turn to the Lord as the one who can lead us to experience it. | By Rt. Rev. Peter M. Buss, Jr. | Sarver, PASpiritual Restoration, Part 3 - Greater Glory
Worship Service: Informal Family - October 02, 2016
The Lord knows that we can become discouraged as we work to restore our lives. The Lord reminds us that He is with us and promises us greater glory through that restoration. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAWhy We Have Sacraments 1- Baptism
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 18, 2016
This Sunday we have the privilege of witnessing an infant baptism. And so, in the sermon, we’re going to be talking about baptism and Holy Supper. Here’s a passage to get you thinking about the topic. Have you ever had thoughts along these lines? If the spiritual meaning of the Word had not been disclosed,… [people] might mutter and say to themselves, “What is baptism but pouring water on a baby’s head? What does that do for the baby’s salvation? What is the Holy Supper but taking bread and wine? What does that do for our salvation? For that matter, what is holy about these rituals, other than the fact that the ecclesiastical hierarchy has traditionally accepted them as sacred and divine and has commanded us to observe them? Although the churches claim that when the Word of God is brought near the elements they become sacred, these rituals are essentially just ceremonial.” … Yet from the point of view of their spiritual meaning, these two sacraments are the holiest acts of worship. (True Christianity §667) When we understand the significance of baptism and Holy Supper they can become a very meaningful part of our spiritual lives, rather than just arbitrary seeming rituals. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAWhat Should I Pray For?
Worship Service: Sermon only - September 11, 2016
This message reflects on the Lord's promise that: "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." We consider what it means to "Ask in His name", and from this think about what our prayers should be asking for. We remember that ultimately prayer is simply conversation with the Lord. | By Rev. The focus is on the story of the Lord placing a child before His disciples and saying that to receive the child in His name is to receive Him. In other words, the Lord was encouraging the disciples, and indeed all people, to put away self-centeredness, and to grow to become truly humble. James P. Cooper | Westville, RSABecoming Truly New Church
Worship Service: Sermon only - June 12, 2016
This message considers what it means to truly be New Church. It seems that it is more than identification with a set of teachings or a religious community. Instead, it is something that a person grows into as they allow the Lord to lead them on a journey where they gradually become and angel and experience more and more of His peace and joy. | By Rev. Garry B. Walsh | Phoenix, AZHeroes - Doing What's Required
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - June 05, 2016
A common theme with people who perform heroic acts is that they say they were just doing their job. It is heroic in many circumstances to do what is required of us. We all have that calling to heroic obligation and spiritually we have to step into doing what's required by the Lord, especially when it is hard. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAThe Complex Things That Make Us, Us
Worship Service: Sermon only - May 29, 2016
In this message we consider how complex we all are, especially when we think about our spiritual natures. Only the Lord knows everything about every part of us.
