Prepare the Way
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 18, 2022
John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for the Lord. Without this preparation the people would not have been able to recognize the Lord’s innocence and love. Likewise, if we do not prepare through living a good life we will miss the presence of the Lord’s innocence and love. The way we prepare is through repentance. This week, take the time to think about how you would like the Lord to show up in your life: in love? In peace? In friendship? In integrity? Then take the steps that will allow you to receive the Lord in this way. The hard work of preparation will have been worth it when it brings the joy of the Lord’s presence. | By Rev. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 11, 2022
We talk of organizations as if they have a life of their own: "The company made some good decisions last years;" "The rugby team is making good progress." But of course, no organization does anything apart from the individual choices of its members. The church is no different. We may talk of the church as a separate entity that does things; the reality is that the church only exists insofar as the individual members are living and being the church. Each of us is a part of the greater whole, and the quality of the church will be determined by the quality of our lives. Rev. J. Bheki Dube also reads a lesson. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAJudge Not!

The Children of Israel were on the edge of the Promised Land, about to begin a new era in the history of their people. They sent spies to see what this new land was like. When the spies came back they reported that there were some very good things in the land and also some very scary things. It's a new school year and you may be just beginning something new. There will probably be some very good things and, perhaps, some very scary things. What should you do? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn CathedralWhen to Move Forward
Worship Service: Sermon only - September 04, 2022
It's understandable that the Children of Israel doubted whether they could conquer the land of Canaan, once they'd heard the report from the spies. There were giants and fortified cities in their way. How do we know whether the obstacles in our way are something to be overcome or a sign from the Lord that we're going the wrong direction? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn CathedralWalking in the Lord's Commandments
Worship Service: Informal Family - September 04, 2022
This is Bryn Athyn Church School's theme this year, taken from Jeremiah 7:23. The Lord often told His disciples to "follow Me" as He walked around Israel. Why is "walking" a good way of describing the life of religion? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Spirit of the Law
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 04, 2022
We all break rules from time to time. We speed. We tell a little lie. We browse Instagram at work when no one is around. We always tell ourselves that it is justified. But then someone else does the same, and our righteous indignation bristles: well if they speed, I can cut them off! They lied, so I can bad mouth them to others! They slack off at work, so I can too! What we fail to see is that we are using the technicality of breaking a rule to justify us harming someone else. The Lord calls us to something greater: to look beyond just the letter of the law and focus on the spirit, and from there to have compassion on those who perhaps don't stay within bounds as much as we might hope. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAI Will Not Reject Thee

(Psalm 119:32). The Scriptures are full of examples of people running: Esau running to meet his brother Jacob, the multitudes running to hear Jesus preach, Peter and John running to the tomb on Easter morning. Running carries with it the idea of urgency, of doing something from set-purpose. As to our spirit, we’re all runners. But what are we running toward or from? | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralTo Run and Not Be Weary
Worship Service: Sermon only - August 28, 2022
(Isaiah 40:31) Running is hard to do half-heartedly. Either we do it or we don’t. In other words, we don’t run unless we’re intent on doing something important. This fits with the correspondence of running – "wanting to make something known" (AC 3804). As to our spirit, we "run" to communicate our intent, our desire. The goal is to run "in the way" of the Lord’s commandments, and away from the things that make us weary. | By Rev. Derek P. Elphick | Bryn Athyn CathedralThe Lord's Flock

Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - August 28, 2022
This week we are going to talk about being in the middle of the flood, coping with the challenges as we experience them. In the midst of struggle we suffer from doubt but the Lord’s promise is that He has prepared you and that He will bring you through alive, to find a new beginning. There is no challenge that you cannot overcome. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSADivine Garments

If we read the Gospels we find a description of His clothing in almost every major part of His ministry. The Lord’s clothing, ever changing, is a representation of the many ways He comes to us in our lives. Come and see how He is present with us wearing Swaddling Cloths, the Hem of His Garment, Transfiguration Clothing, Borrowed Clothing, a Towel, a Purple Robe, and an Inner Garment. | By Rt. Rev. When we have done something wrong, we might want to "fix" it by adding something good to it. The Lord asks us instead to remove the bad first, and that makes room for the good. | By Rev. Scott I. Frazier | Bryn Athyn CathedralThe Woman at the Well

Worship Service: Sermon only - August 21, 2022
We all want a nice home in which we can feel safe and loved. This doesn’t just come with a nice house: we are home among the people who care for us and love us. We are also home when we rest in the Lord and His Divine care for us. We all have a spiritual home. This Sunday we’ll look at ways to find this home for ourselves. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSADaily Prayer
Worship Service: Informal Family - August 21, 2022
How often do you talk to the Lord? Is it often enough? Communication is a crucial aspect of any relationship and our relationship with the Lord is no different. Let’s talk about what prayer on a day-to-day basis looks like and how we can make progress in our regular communication with the Lord. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn Heilman Hall
