Part 4-Spiritual Freedom
Worship Service: Informal Family - October 26, 2008
Part 4 in a series of worship services given during the spiritual growth program, "Building Healthy Relationships". After we identify areas for healing and ask the Lord for help, we will find that we can progress only by leaving behind our old negative patterns and choosing new ones. Sometimes the choice is difficult and sometimes we have to force ourselves to do things we don't enjoy, but the effort we put into acting from good intentions and making wise choices in our relationships will bring healing. Doctrinal class given during the spiritual growth program, "Building Healthy Relationships". Observation and diagnosis come before the cure. We can't heal our relationships until we have identified what we contribute that is harmful or unhealthy. In the Sermon on the Mount we learn about our inner life - our thoughts and intentions. Our task is to observe our intentions to see if they are driven by resentments, unhealthy desires, pretenses or negative motivations; and identify one or two of our relationships that have negative characteristics so we can work toward healing them. The Sermon on the Mount begins with blessings, both blessings we have received and blessings that we may receive in the future. Noticing the blessings that the Lord has given us and wants to give us provides encouragement, direction and energy for our spiritual journey. Our relationships with other people are great places to start noticing blessings. This week choose one or two relationships to work on and notice the blessings experienced and hoped for in them.
