The fallout of eating forbidden fruit Since the Lord's face is mercy, peace, and everything good, it is clear that He never looks at anyone except with mercy and never turns His face from anyone. It is we, when we are wrapped up in evil, who turn our faces away. As the Lord said through Isaiah: Your offenses are what cause a separation between you and your God: and your sins hide His face from you. (Isaiah 59:2) Likewise it says here that they hid themselves from Jehovah's face because they were naked. Mercy, peace and all that is good - Jehovah's face - are what give rise to the inner call in the case of those who have perception (and those who have conscience, too, but in a different way). The qualities always operate in a compassionate manner, but the way we receive them depends on our state. (Heavenly Secrets 223-224, New Century Edition) | By Rev. Dr Andrew M. Worship Service: Sermon only - November 15, 2009
A seven-part sermon series given in conjunction with the 2010 Journey Program, "Living Courageously". The task for this week is: Go forward living courageously with strength and purpose. Feel the strength of coming from your convictions when they are grounded in God's Word. Allow God's promises to work miracles in your life. As you become increasingly aware of God's blessings in your life, ask yourself this question: "What new miracles will I notice today, as I go forward living courageously? | By Rev. Dr Andrew M. Dibb | Bryn Athyn CathedralHealing the Leper
Worship Service: Chapel Talk - September 16, 2009
Leprosy is a skin disease. Just as skin is the out most part of our body, the literal sense of the Word is the out most part of Scripture. Therefore, to be in a spiritually "leprous condition" is to have mistaken ideas about the literal sense of the Word. College is a time when there is lots of discussion about important ideas --including the application of Scripture to our lives. This also means that there will be disagreements-- different ways of understanding what Scripture teaches. How can the Lord heal our differences, even when we disagree with each other? | By Rev. Doctrinal Class - November 14, 2008
Doctrinal class given during the spiritual growth program, "Building Healthy Relationships". The Lord said we should first be reconciled with our brother or sister and then come and offer our gift. In the first week we looked at the blessings the Lord has given us. This week we come full circle by looking at how we can bless others by sharing our gifts and blessings with them. Doctrinal Class - October 17, 2008
Doctrinal class given during the spiritual growth program, "Building Healthy Relationships". Observation and diagnosis come before the cure. We can't heal our relationships until we have identified what we contribute that is harmful or unhealthy. In the Sermon on the Mount we learn about our inner life - our thoughts and intentions. Our task is to observe our intentions to see if they are driven by resentments, unhealthy desires, pretenses or negative motivations; and identify one or two of our relationships that have negative characteristics so we can work toward healing them.
