Confirmation of Baptism
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 23, 2021
Last week we witnessed a baptism. Malcolm talked about the importance of baptism as a mark of committing to a certain way of life. But he also mentioned how rarely many of us reflect on our own baptisms. In the New Church we practice infant baptism, meaning many of us were not even conscious of what was going on when it took place, and have no memory of it. How do we confirm and affirm that we as adults accept the promises made when we were infants? Or if baptised as adults, how do we confirm and affirm the promises made years ago when younger? This Sunday we will look at various ways of confirming the promises of baptism and making sure the commitment of baptised remains with us. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSARepentance

Worship Service: Family (may include music) - May 16, 2021
The Lord's love for His church is shown in the story of Jacob's love for Rachel (Genesis 29) and his helping her care for her flock of sheep. It also gives us an example of how we should love one another. | By Rev. John L. Odhner | Bryn Athyn CathedralLead Us Not into Temptation
Worship Service: Sermon only - May 16, 2021
Why have we been taught to pray to our Father in heaven to "lead us not into temptation?" It is a question I have been asked several times in the last few years. | By Rev. N. Bruce Rogers | Bryn Athyn CathedralCircumcision and Baptism
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 16, 2021
This Sunday we get to witness a baptism. The teachings of the New Church tell us that the sacrament of baptism was instituted by the Lord to replace the ritual of circumcision. We might prefer not to think too much about circumcision but, if we spend a bit of time reflecting on the purpose and function of circumcision, it can give us a different and useful angle from which to get a better understanding of the sacrament that replaced it, baptism. | By Rev. Worship Service: Family (may include music) - May 09, 2021
We know that the Lord is the perfect Human being. But we are also told about Him appearing as the sun of Heaven. Why is the Lord like the sun and how does He want to bring light and heat to our lives? | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralThe Holy Spirit
Worship Service: Sermon only - May 09, 2021
While the teachings of the New Church are clear that there is not a trinity of persons in God as traditional Christian doctrine teaches, those teachings do speak about Father, Son and Holy Spirit as the three essential components of God. In this trinity, what quality of God is the Holy Spirit and how does this quality of the Lord affect our lives? | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralChurch as Family: How We Care for Each Other
Worship Service: Informal Family - May 09, 2021
The Lord loves everyone, but shows us His love through other people (True Christianity 457). "The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give." (Matthew 10:7-8) | By Rev. John L. Odhner | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallHonouring Mothers
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 09, 2021
The 4th Commandment directs us to “honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which Jehovah your God is giving you.” I hope you have a chance today to do some of that honouring. But of course, this commandment goes far beyond just one day of the year and beyond just one earthly mother. More broadly we can reflect on how we honour motherhood in general, and how those qualities of motherhood come into our spiritual practices. Whether your mother is still here or has passed on, whether your relationship with your mother is deep, conflicted, or non-existent, it is possible to honour spiritual motherhood. | By Rev. Worship Service: Sermon only - May 02, 2021
There's a lot to be afraid of in the world around us, and there's a lot to be afraid of in our own inner world. How do we move forward in the face of what feels like very reasonable fear? How can we find hope at such times? | By Rev. Erik J. Buss | Bryn Athyn CathedralWhen Having the Ark of God Doesn't Help
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 02, 2021
We’re going to look at a story this Sunday where the Children of Israel are facing a powerful enemy and they decide to bring the ark of the covenant into battle with them. But then they get absolutely slaughtered by their enemy. There are other stories in the Bible where the presence of the ark of the covenant with the people brings about a miraculous victory for the Children of Israel. There are also times in our lives where we’re facing something difficult and we feel like we’re making an effort to follow the Lord but He doesn’t seem to be helping at all. Worship Service: Family (may include music) - April 25, 2021

After His resurrection the Lord appeared several times to His disciples. The third time that He appeared, as recounted in John 21, He made a prediction to Peter that is relevant for each one of us. | By Rev. Jeremy F. Simons | Bryn Athyn CathedralEducation, Part 3 - Learning the Lord's Way
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - April 25, 2021
So far we have seen why education is a necessary part of life and how education is really an opening up of a path to the Lord. This Sunday we will look at some of the ways that we do the actual practice of learning and teaching. For learning to be useful we have to make sure we are taking account of all that the Lord says about our minds and how they grow. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSABringing in the Poor, Maimed, Lame and Blind

1st Lesson: Luke 14:15-24 2nd Lesson: AE 714 & CL 72 Talk: “Bringing in the Poor, Maimed, Lame and Blind” (Text: Luke 14:21) | By Rev. Matthew L. Genzlinger | Kempton, PAUnderstanding the Lord's Word
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - April 18, 2021
There are many wonderful teachings in the Word that remind us of what the Lord wants us to think, do, and say. They remind us of how much He loves us and wants to lead each of us to a heavenly home. There are other statements that seem harsh and cruel. How does the Lord want us to understand them? | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralHard Statements: Breaking the Two Testaments of Stone
Worship Service: Sermon only - April 18, 2021
Reading particularly in the Old Testament, but also in places in the New Testament, we can run across statements that not only do not reflect a loving God, but actually convey the opposite idea. If we are to hold onto the idea that the Lord is perfect love expressing itself in perfect wisdom, we need to know why the Word speaks so differently from what we might expect. | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralAuthority
Worship Service: Informal Family - April 18, 2021
After the Lord rode triumphantly into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the chief priests, scribes, and elders questioned by what authority He did all these things. His answer was a little strange. We might also wonder about authority. How do we know what we should trust, believe, and obey? What does the Lord teach us about authority? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallEducation, Part 2 - An Opening of the Path
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - April 18, 2021
Last week Joel talked about the necessity of education. This week we will be talking about a model of what education does for a person and how a New Church worldview can inform what we educate people in and how we educate them. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSA
