Maundy Thursday Holy Supper: A Sacrament of Repentance
Worship Service: Sermon only - April 17, 2025
Rev. Malcolm G. Smith will lead this reflective Holy Supper service with readings and a talk on the significance of the Last Supper and an opportunity to take Holy Supper. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn CathedralThe View From the Cross
Worship Service: Children & Adult - April 16, 2025
We mostly think of the view that we have of the Lord. When we think of the crucifixion, perhaps we picture the Lord on the cross. But what was (and is) the Lord’s point of view? In His moment of suffering and death what did He observe, and in observing, what was His response? For an ordinary person they may have felt despair or anger; yet the Lord, even then, continued to look out with mercy and love, even on His enemies. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAThe Coming Kingdom
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - April 13, 2025
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey the onlookers took it to be an ancient symbol of kingship. And indeed, it was. Yet their expectations of that coming kingdom were far removed from the kingdom that Jesus sought to establish. Jesus knew that the people expected an immediate overthrow of oppression and the onset of an earthly kingdom with Jesus as their benevolent ruler. The kingdom Jesus actually established was one of hard work and repentance, in other words, a spiritual kingdom. This Sunday we will look at how our own expectations are contrary to what the Lord actually intends for us. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAHe Came to Witness to the Truth

When the Lord was preparing to enter Jerusalem, His followers laid their garments down in the way before him and shouted out, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Luke 19:37). What does it mean to welcome the Lord as the King of our lives? | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Bryn Athyn CathedralLaying Our Garments Before the King
Worship Service: Sermon only - April 13, 2025
The Lord’s closest disciples laid their own garments on the donkey, and as the Lord rode the donkey into Jerusalem, the crowds laid their garments before Him on the road. In laying down their garments, all of them were giving up something of their own for the Lord, symbolically humbling themselves before Him. What does this mean for us? | By Rev. Coleman S. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - March 30, 2025
Marriage is an important part of love for many people. And yet the Word has very little to say about it directly! Part of the reason is that people have so many warped ideas of what marriage is or ought to be. When the Word was written, a true explanation would have been rejected. But in the Teachings of the New Church we find that clearer explanation, and at heart, marriage is about friendship. Through cultivating a genuine friendship, a married couple can establish trust, mutual support, and true marriage love. | By Rt. Rev. Brian W. Keith | Westville, RSAHe Came to Cast Fire to the Earth

Joseph of the Old Testament had some bad things happen in his life. He was sold as a slave into Egypt. He went to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Yet, things kept turning around and going well for him. It can and even does happen that way for you too! | By Rev. Mark D. We know that the Lord cares about us, that He’s in charge of everything that happens, that He controls all the bad stuff in life, etc. If you were going to answer the question, how would knowing and believing these things contribute to your answer? | By Rev. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - March 23, 2025
“Everything in moderation” seems like a sound rule for life. After all, anything, even something good, can become harmful when taken to an extreme. Yet this common-sense truth finds surprisingly little support in the Lord’s Word. As just one example, Jesus says, “no one can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24). There is no moderation or balancer here: rather pick a side and wholeheartedly follow it! This Sunday we will look at how a blind devotion to moderation can be harmful and why thinking in terms of prioritisation is a more heavenly outlook. | By Rev. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - March 23, 2025
Things seem to fall apart and get broken rather easily—from our aging bodies, to the buildings we live in, to the equipment we rely on each day, to our lives in general and the world at large. Just think of your current to-do list of things you need to fix, replace, clean, or sort out. What are we meant to do in the midst of this reality? Give up on fixing anything? The Lord tells us to lay up treasures in heaven, because treasures on earth are susceptible to moth, rust, and thieves (Matthew 6:19, 20), but a big part of trying to serve heavenly goals is at least attempting to do useful things for other people in this natural world, even though things fall apart. Let’s talk on Sunday about how the Lord maintains us and how we can be part of maintaining what is good with the Lord’s help. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Bryn Athyn CathedralMemorial Service for J. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - March 16, 2025
What would you be willing to give up in order to get the Lord's truth? Sometimes it seems like we don't have to give up anything: all we need to do is learn a little! But to really take in the truth and have it become part of our lives, we need to be willing to let go of other wants, points of view, and habits that get in the way. We have to be like the merchant in the Lord's parable who was willing to sell all that he had in order to acquire the pearl of great price. | By Rev. The Lord says that those who hear his Word and live by it are like those who build their house on a rock, where no storm can hurt them. Those who don’t are carried away into all sorts of trouble. Everyone experiences spiritual storms, times of temptation and uncertainty. Rely on the Lord’s Word, and not only will you survive hard times, but in the long run, you will thrive. | By Rev. Grant R. Schnarr | Bryn Athyn CathedralDemon-Possessed Man Healed
Worship Service: Sermon only - March 16, 2025
The story in Mark 5, about the demon-possessed man healed by the Lord is also a spiritual story, about every person being spiritually healed, freed from obsessive thoughts and addiction to evil. This story is a bit scary, dark, and brings up questions – all reminiscent of hard times in each of our lives. But the Lord comes to us; he casts out unwanted thoughts and gives us peace. | By Rev. Grant R. Schnarr | Bryn Athyn CathedralHalf Measures

When Saul was commanded to destroy all the Amalekites and all their possessions, he only half obeyed: he destroyed all the worthless possessions, but kept the precious things, and spared the king. Yet he still claimed that he had obeyed the Lord. How often do we only follow the Lord halfway, but claim that we have done everything He asks? And how do we come to a place of wholeheartedly separating ourselves even from the evils that we really love and are attached to? | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSA
