"Then his master, after he had called him , said to him, 'you wicked servant!, I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'" (Matthew 18:32-33) Closing prayer by Rev. Eric H. Carswell. | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Bryn Athyn CathedralWhat Does It Mean to Forgive?

"Forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors." (Matthew 6:12) | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Bryn Athyn CathedralSpiritual Restoration, Part 1 - Examine the Focus
Worship Service: Informal Family - September 04, 2016
Spiritual restoration begins with an humble examination of the focus of your life. There are things that lead us away from the Lord and these cause an emptiness in our life. Recognizing that we are neglecting the most important things is the beginning of restoration. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAThe Permission of Evil
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - August 28, 2016
When sadness or tragedy strikes we can’t help asking, “Why did this happen?” We will explore why the Lord needs to allow unhappiness, and what He does afterwards to help us and restore us. | By Rt. Rev. Peter M. Buss, Sr. | Westville, RSAAm I Good Enough?
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - August 14, 2016
Sometimes it can feel like it's pretty easy to be a good person and at other times it can feel impossible. What's reality? How worried should we be? What is the Lord really asking of us? | By Rev. Erik J. Buss | Westville, RSAThe Lord's Prayer, Part 3 - Forgiven as We Forgive
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - July 24, 2016
The Lord loves us and forgives us, but we are only able to receive that forgiveness if we have a forgiving heart toward others. As we strive to live that life, we will struggle to open our hearts to the Lord. As we rely more on Him, we see that He is the source of all the goodness we can acquire. [Apologies for Technical Difficulties] | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAHeroes - The Courage to Care
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - June 26, 2016
The courage to choose the success and happiness of others over our own is an act of spiritual heroism. Do that, we must face down the desires inside of us, reject them, and choose to act on behalf of love and justice. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAAs We Also Forgive Our Debtors
Worship Service: Sermon only - June 05, 2016
Have you ever wondered why people in the New Church say the Lord's prayer a bit differently from a lot of other churches? One of the differences is that we say, "and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors." Do you know what that means? How are debts different from trespasses? This sermon puts them in context. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAHoly Supper and Repentance
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 29, 2016
This Sunday we will have Holy Supper or Communion at the end of the service and we will be talking about the meaning of this sacred practice. We have just finished a sermon series on repentance and so we will be talking particularly about the power that taking the Holy Supper can have in the process of repenting. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAConfidence in the Lord's Love and Forgiveness
Worship Service: Sermon only - May 22, 2016
This message reflects on the depth of the Lord's unconditional love and therefore His continual forgiveness. It also looks at how He is always working to heal us from the things that ail us spiritually and to help us grow more spiritually perfect every day. | By Rev. Garry B. Walsh | Phoenix, AZThe Steps of Repentance 4 - Begin a New Life
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 22, 2016
For the past 3 weeks we've been looking at the steps of repentance, the spiritual process the Lord calls us to go through to reject what is evil and harmful in our lives and begin a new life. This week we come to the final step: actually beginning a new life. Scared? Does it even seem possible to make a real and lasting change in your life? Join us this Sunday to take an honest look at the challenges of beginning a new life and to learn how the Lord makes it possible for us to do this. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAThe Steps of Repentance 3 - Pray to the Lord
Worship Service: Sermon only - May 15, 2016
The teachings of the New Church outline 4 steps of repentance. This Sunday we're digging into the 3rd step: praying to the Lord. Prayer can sometimes feel pointless and ineffectual but that's why I love the chance to get to think about it and talk about it in the context of repentance because then we can really see its importance and power. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAThe Steps of Repentance 2 - Recognise and Acknowledge Sin
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 08, 2016
(By Coleman Glenn read by Malcolm Smith)The teachings of the New Church outline 4 steps of repentance. This Sunday we're digging into the 2nd step--a step that is easy to overlook but essential to real repentance: recognising and acknowledging our sin. Sin is a scary word but learning how to recognise and acknowledge it in ourselves in a healthy way is a key step in moving beyond it. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSASteps of Repentance 1-Examine Yourself
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - May 01, 2016
The first thing Jesus said when He began public preaching was, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). But how do we repent? The teachings of the New Church outline 4 steps of repentance. Can you guess (or remember) what they are? And, more importantly, do you know how to use them to repent? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAGod Remembered. Did He Forget?
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - April 17, 2016
The Lord is always present with us, but at times He withholds His help until we can accept His help in a way that builds our trust and reliance on Him. Even at those times He is lovingly present waiting for the time we can remember Him and be lifted up by Him. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAEvaluating and Improving Your Spiritual Health
Worship Service: Sermon only - April 03, 2016
How are you doing? How's your life going? How's your spiritual life going? These can be hard questions to know how to answer and hard questions to want to answer. Especially if things aren't going well we can feel a lot of shame and resistance around directly thinking about how we're doing. But, the first step in getting healthier is to take an honest look at how we're doing right now. That's what we're going to do this Sunday. This Sunday, during the adult sermon, I will give a short talk and then give people about 10 minutes to privately fill out a series of pages called the "Spiritual Health Snapshot" and "Spiritual Health Plan." It's a tool for evaluating how you're doing spiritually, picking an area to focus on, and then making a plan to work on it. These will be available on www.newchurchwestville.co.za/snapshot . You can download and print from there. If you've done it before, it can be useful to do it again and see how things have changed since the last time. If you haven't done it before, I hope you'll give it a try. Let's each do our individual work so that we can become more healthy as individuals and as a church. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAThe Speckled And Spotted: Imperfect Motivations

Worship Service: Sermon only - February 21, 2016
Almost everyone has experienced remorse. This message looks at how the remorse we might feel is likely to be a sign of the Lord's love working within us. | By Rev. Garry B. Walsh | Phoenix, AZFixing Fragile Hearts
Worship Service: Sermon only - February 07, 2016
This week we think about how challenging elements in our own imperfect natures can cause us to feel weak or fragile. The way the Lord deals with this is captured, in part, in the story of His turning out of the temple those who bought and sold, the money changers and those who sold doves. | By Rev. Garry B. Walsh | Phoenix, AZYou Must be Born Anew
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 17, 2016
Is it possible to really change? At the beginning of the year, it's a question we may find ourselves asking. The startling answer from the Lord's Word: both yes and no. According to the Word, we have two "selves" or "wills" at the same time: a fleshly one, and a spiritual one. The fleshly will doesn't change and will always be fleshly, but the good news is that we can choose to act from the spiritual one instead - if we put the fleshly one to death. How do we do that? Listen on! | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Westville, RSASeeing Patterns by Eric Carswell
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 10, 2016
This Sunday we will be hearing a sermon by Eric Carswell called “Seeing Patterns.” It takes a funny and not very well-known story from the Old Testament and uses it to explore how we can come to see negative patterns in our lives, even when we don’t particularly want to. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSATurn and Live!
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - January 10, 2016
Throughout the Scriptures the Lord continually tells us to turn. He encourages us to take small steps in our effort to turn towards Him. This morning we will ask the question: How do we go about turning towards the Lord? What does this look like? | By Rev. Matthew L. Genzlinger | Boston, MA
