Swedenborg as Cosmologist

Svante Arrhenius, PhD (grandson of the Nobel laureate Svante August Arrhenius) was born in Sweden and received his doctorate in Oceanography at the University of Stockholm. In his distinguished career as an earth scientist he has been the recipient of several research fellowships in the U.S. and Europe, and has served as director of the space research lab at San Diego. He is presently engaged in research at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at La Jolla, California. His fields of interest include geochemistry and cosmochemistry. Anders Hallengren, a native of Stockholm, received a Masters Degree from the University of Stockholm with the thesis, "Emerson's Unio Mystica." He has taught literature and philosophy, and was a Visiting Fellow in the Department of History at Harvard University in 1987. Having published numerous books and pamphlets, he has been awarded a research grant from the Swedenborg fund of the royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Academic Symposium on the 300th Anniversary of Swedenborg's Birth. Theme: Swedenborg and His Influence. Welcome: Dr. Jane K. Williams-Hogan. Introduction: President Geoffrey S. Childs. Speaker: Inge Jonsson-Keynote Address. Inge Jonsson is Vice President and President-elect of the University of Stockholm, a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Academy of Letters, and is presently active also as Secretary-General of the Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences. He received his doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of Stockholm in 1961. Among his publications are "Swedenborg's Korrespondenslara" in the Series "Acta universitatis Stockhomiensis," 1969 and "Emanuel Swedenborg," Twayne Press, 1971. More recently Dr. Jonsson co-authored the book "Swedenborg", Proprius Press, 1976, with Rev. Olle Hjern. He was co-author with Inge Jonsson of the book "Swedenborg," Proprius Press, 1976, among other publication. Rev. Hjern, who is undoubtedly Sweden's most esteemed scholar of Swedenborgiana and New Church history, has been editor of "Nya Kyrkans Tidning" for more than thirty years and is active as Pastor of the Swedish Society of "The Lord's New Church".
