In the fourth and final week of our series “Growing through Challenges” we see Gideon's 300 men (with horns and torches) routing 135,000 Amalekites. Their battle cry is “The Sword of the Lord and of Gideon,” which contains two vital truths: first, that all power is from the Lord (as we learned last week)—thus the Sword is the Lord's. The second truth is that the Lord works in us and through us with our cooperation. So the Sword was also Gideon's. | By Rev. John L. Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - February 23, 2020
When we think of removing things from our life, our mind probably goes to the harmful, destructive, negative things. After all, why would you get rid of something that is helpful, good, and positive? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But at times, our attachment to something good holds us back from moving on to something better. This Sunday we will look at how to recognize those times when we need to move on, even if it means the end of something good. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAUnder Siege - I: Do Not Answer

Gideon's army of 32,000 faced an enemy army of 135,000. But the Lord tells Gideon that his army is too big, and that he needs to let many of his soldiers go! (Judges 7:1-8). When we are facing challenges that feel too big for us, what do we need to let go of? How does the Lord’s power work in our lives? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallThe Lord's Power

Then the Lord said to Gideon, "By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place." (Judges 7:7) | By Rev. Erik J. Buss | Bryn Athyn CathedralObserving Lent
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - February 16, 2020
Have you heard of Lent? Have you ever given something up for Lent? People often think of Lent as a Catholic or Anglican thing because those are some of the churches that observe Lent. We’ve never observed it at New Church Westville before, as far as I’m aware. But could there be a value in giving something up for the period leading up to Easter? Come on Sunday and we’ll talk about it. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAOne Heart One Mind One Way

This is week two of the “Growing Through Challenges” series. This week Gideon is called to take action, and then to find even deeper trust in the Lord. We'll look at the role peace has in that process. | By Rev. Erik J. Buss | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallMissed Opportunities
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - February 09, 2020
It is frustrating when we miss an opportunity for something good: It is impossible to go back and change what happened, but we like to dwell on what might have been, if only we had known. This same mindset troubles us spiritually. It is not pleasant to think, “if I had made different choices earlier today, or last week, or last year, right now I would be a kinder, better, happier person. But since I missed my chance, I’ll never be quite as good as I could have been." The Lord, however, in bringing His friend Lazarus back from the dead, gives us hope that even if we cannot change the past, we never lose the chance for a better future. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSA
