When the Lord had the last supper with His disciples, He gave thanks before He gave them bread and wine (Luke 20:17-19). What is the connection between Holy Supper, Thanksgiving, and saying a blessing before a meal? How do these practices help us experience more of the Lord's blessings? | By Rev. Solomon J. Keal | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallHalfway There
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 24, 2019
When Saul was commanded to destroy all the Amalekites and all their possessions, he only half obeyed: he destroyed all the worthless possessions, but kept the precious things, and spared the king. Yet he still claimed that he had obeyed the Lord. How often do we only follow the Lord halfway, but claim that we have done everything He asks? And how do we come to a place of wholeheartedly separating ourselves even from the evils that we really love and are attached to? | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSASacrifices to the Lord

All three of the commanded feasts had to do with a form of giving thanks. The first feast was the "feast of Unleavened Bread". The second feast was the "Feast of Weeks" which occurred when the first fruits of wheat were ready to harvest. And the third feast was the "Feast of Ingathering' at the years end. (See AC 9285) Not all discussion is included. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. Heinrichs | Bryn Athyn Cathedral Social HallInvitation
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 17, 2019
As a church we are focusing on invitation for the next couple of months. As we work on invitation I want our thinking and our actions to be informed by what the Lord teaches about it. And when you look for it, you can find teachings and stories about invitation and even direct invitations from the Lord throughout the His Word. Let’s learn from the Lord about how to invite. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSACommunity
Worship Service: Sermon only - November 17, 2019
Evil stemming from self-love sets a person apart not only from the Lord but also from heaven, for he loves no one but himself and others only insofar as he sees them as part of his self-interest, or as they identify themselves with him. (AC 4997:2) | By Rev. Erik J. Buss | Bryn Athyn CathedralUplifted
Worship Service: Informal Family - November 17, 2019
I've been especially interested these days in the idea that there are things we find “uplifting.” We'll all have different ideas about what they are, but maybe we'd all agree with the words of King David in the last verse of the 28th Psalm, where he prays that the Lord “lift His people up forever.” It might also be worth considering what David says earlier in that psalm, where he talks about “going down into the pit,” kind of the opposite of being uplifted. But the Lord can't lift us up without cooperation on our part. We might even try, as if on our own, to lift ourselves up. The story of the man at the Pool of Bethesda in John 5 is a good illustration of that. In the Levitical blessing (at the end of Numbers 6), we ask the Lord to “lift up His countenance” upon us.
