Doctrinal Class - February 19, 2013
What are the Lord\'s priorities? What can we do to be led by him? | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn Cathedral Social HallGood News From Mark, Part 6 - Be Opened!
Worship Service: Sermon only - February 17, 2013
Did you grow up in a church environment? How has that affected your spiritual life today positively or negatively? There are significant advantages to growing up in a church environment and there also problems that 'church people' often have that other people don't. The stories we're going to read from Mark this week will help us identify some of those problems so that we can deal with them and gain the full benefit of being part of a religious community. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAGood News From Mark, Part 4 - Don't Tell Anyone
Worship Service: Sermon only - February 03, 2013
There's this confusing thing that happens a number of times in the Gospel of Mark. The Lord heals someone in an amazing way but then tells them not to tell anyone. Why not? Other times He specifically tells people to go and tell people what has happened. What's the difference? This Sunday we're going to see if we can figure out what's going on here and also what we can learn about when we need to keep quiet and when we need to spread the good news. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAThe Parable of Adam and Eve

What do we get out of being involved in the church and in a relationship with God? One way to explore this issue is by looking at what agreement the Lord is offering us. He agrees to do something for us and in return asks us to do something for Him. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Westville, RSASpiritual Warfare, Part 2 - The Battle is the Lord's
Worship Service: Sermon only - October 14, 2012
Are you willing to fight? That was the question that we focused on last week in our series on spiritual warfare. (If you missed that sermon and would like to read it, you can find it on the homepage at www.newchurchwestville.co.za and if you would like to listen to it you can find it at www.newchurchwestville.co.za/sermons. ) If you're willing to fight, the next question is how do you fight? There's a lot that we could talk about but we're going to focus primarily on one crucial factor in fighting spiritual battles. If we don't do this one thing in our spiritual battles we will always ultimately lose. Can you guess what it is? If you know what it is, do you know how to do it effectively? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSASpiritual Warfare 1 - Are You Willing to Fight
Worship Service: Sermon only - October 07, 2012
For the next two Sundays we're going to be exploring the topic of spiritual war. The Bible is full of stories about war and the New Church teaches that all of that imagery is symbolic of the spiritual war that is going on all the time. Here are a couple of questions to get you thinking about the topic. Have you ever experienced this spiritual war? Who is the war against? What are we fighting for? What is the value of thinking about our spiritual lives in warlike terms? | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAMy Yoke Is Easy And My Burden Is Light

The New Church offers a promise of new teachings and new understanding that makes a difference for your life. These teachings should help make things easier to get to heaven, but we can often feel like we are falling short. This Sunday we will talk about being good and getting to heaven. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Westville, RSAEnd Times - Is the World Getting Better or Worse
Worship Service: Sermon only - June 10, 2012
The last 2 weeks we have talked about the Last Judgement. The New Church teaches that the End Times predicted in the Bible have already taken place and we are living in a new era of human history. If that is true, what is the potential of humanity? And what is happening now? Are things a mess? Or are we making progress? | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Westville, RSAHow To Make Wise Choices

We love the Lord by caring for each other. (Psalm 19:7-8; John 21:10-19; DLW 11:14; AE 820) Today's Quotes: Truth is called faith when a person knows it and thinks it, and truth becomes charity when a person wills it and does it. Truth is like a seed. When one looks at a seed before it is sown, it is only a seed: but when it is put into the ground it becomes a plant, or a tree, thus assuming its proper form, and consequently acquiring another name. Truth is also like a garment. When not being worn, it is merely pieces of material adapted for a body, but when it is put on, it becomes clothing with a human being inside it. It is similar in the case of truth and charity. While a person knows and thinks the truth, it is no more than truth, and goes by the name of "faith." But when he wills it and does it, it becomes "charity" - just as the seed becomes plant or tree, and as the piece of material becomes clothing with a human being inside.
