Temptations
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 17, 2023
All temptation is an attack against the love present in a person, the degree of temptation depending on the degree of that love. If love is not attacked there is no temptation. (Secrets of Heaven 1690:3) | By Rev. J. Bheki Dube | Westville, RSATempted in the Wilderness - 3 - Putting Self First
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 13, 2022
This is the conclusion of our three-part series on temptations. In the end we have to confront our love of ourselves. This is at the heart of any spiritual struggle. We want to be in charge, so much so that we want to be able to control the Lord. This is represented in the Lord’s last temptation. The devil took Him up onto the pinnacle of the temple, and told Him to throw Himself to the ground. Doesn’t the Word say that “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you,” and, “In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone”? (Luke 4:10, 11). In others words, test the Lord. The Lord says that He’ll keep you safe. But let’s see if He really will. Force His hand. Make Him rescue you. Yet that is not how it works. The Lord will help us when we have made it clear that we want His help. In order to do this we must put aside love of self and put our trust in Him. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSATempted in the Wilderness - 2 - Twisting the Truth
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 06, 2022
Last week we talked about resisting the urge to pursue pleasure above all else. This week we will look at the more intellectual side of temptation: the temptation to twist the truth to suit our own needs. This is represented in the Devil offering Jesus the kingdoms of the world, if only He would worship him. Jesus rebuked the devil, saying that God, and God alone, is to be worshipped and served. We are tempted to make ourselves the rulers and arbiters of what is right and wrong. Yet true freedom lies in serving the Lord and abiding by His rules for life. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSATempted in the Wilderness - 1 - Hungering for Pleasure
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - October 30, 2022
This Sunday we will begin a three-part series on spiritual battles, or temptation. The template for entering these spiritual struggles can be found in the Lord’s temptations: before He began His ministry the Lord was tempted by the devil in the wilderness for forty days. The three main temptations that He faced and in which He was victorious encapsulate all of the temptations that we also grapple with: the craving for pleasure, the compulsion to twist the truth, and the drive to elevate ourselves above all others. 2. This week we are going to talk about being in the middle of the flood, coping with the challenges as we experience them. In the midst of struggle we suffer from doubt but the Lord’s promise is that He has prepared you and that He will bring you through alive, to find a new beginning. There is no challenge that you cannot overcome. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAComing Through the Fire

Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - April 07, 2019
Lord came to send fire and bring a sword not peace. In other places the Lord says He bring peace. So how do we understand this paradox? The Lord goal for us is peace, but his process is division. We need the truth to get to love. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAHOPE

It is often said that the Lord will never give us more than we can handle. And yet, sometimes we still feel totally overwhelmed, just like Peter, who tried to walk on water, but found himself sinking. - JB | By Rev. Jared J. Buss | Mitchellville, MDGospel - Good News for Repentance and Reformation

Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 11, 2018
We will face failure, loss, and our own sins in life. It is part of the process and we should not expect otherwise. If we approach failure as feedback and take our failures to the Lord and look for our inner falsities that are part of the problem, we can face every failure and grow through process. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAJoshua, Part 3 - Spiritual Combat
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - October 28, 2018
The Lord leads us into spiritual combat, the conflict between truth and falsity, between lusts and love. The key to victory is marching according to the 10 Commandments. Here in Part 5 of our 6-Part series considering the Lord's Prayer, we reflect on the nature of temptation and why we ultimately need some of it in order to grow spiritually. While we need to fight temptation, we need to know that only the Lord can be victorious. | By Rev. Garry B. Walsh | Phoenix, AZFacing Floods, Part 2 - Get Ready
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - November 05, 2017
Noah has been told by God that a flood is coming that will destroy everything and everyone, except for those people and animals that God saves on the ark that He tells Noah to build. There are times when we know something big is coming. The Lord can help us to get ready and help us to keep safe what is most important. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAFacing Floods, Part 1 - See it Coming
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - October 29, 2017
Spiritual growth is a destructive process. Without the destruction of old habits, old ways of thinking, old wants and desires, there would be no room for the Lord to build us up as angels. Over the next four Sundays we will be exploring this topic of spiritual destruction and reconstruction using the story of Noah's Flood. This story offers powerful insight into how we deal with the spiritual floods that come our way. In the course of this story we'll talk about seeing the flood coming, how to get ready for it, riding it out, and then the beautiful things the Lord creates when we get to the other side. For this Sunday our focus will be on the first part: seeing the flood coming. | By Rev. Joel C Glenn | Westville, RSAWithholding Bread From Gideon
