Thanks for Freedom
Worship Service: Informal Family - November 27, 2022
Our topic will focus on how the Lord sets us free—how we can free our minds from what traps us. “Jehovah God came down and took on a human manifestation in order to redeem people and save them (True Christianity 82). | By Rev. John L. Odhner | Bryn Athyn Heilman HallWanting a King
Worship Service: Informal Family - August 07, 2022
In 1 Samuel 8 the people asked Samuel to give them a king like the other nations. The Lord warned the people about the downsides of having a king, but they didn’t listen, so He told Samuel to give them what they wanted. What does this symbolize in our spiritual lives? | By Rev. Worship Service: Sermon only - September 05, 2021
We tend to think that external events or the responses of others cause our inner reactions. It can feel like our unhappy and unhelpful responses are inevitable, but the Lord offers us the freedom to respond differently to what happens in our lives. It will require effort and help from the Lord to have this freedom truly become ours. | By Rev. Eric H. Carswell | Bryn Athyn CathedralChoosing Sides
Worship Service: Sermon only - January 10, 2021
A theme throughout the Word is that the Lord continually urges the people to choose whether they will follow Him or not. A very real human tendency in all of us is to make this choice a whole lot more complicated than it needs to be; however, it is really a simple choice to make. In many ways after you strip away all of the shades of gray, it really becomes a binary decision. Understanding the simplicity of choosing a side can often help to strengthen our commitment to serving the Lord. | By Rt. Rev. Bradley D. Heinrichs | Bryn Athyn CathedralThe Challenge of Choosing Wisely
Worship Service: Informal Family - July 07, 2019
In the story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had a choice of fruits from two trees. We explore how, instead of telling about "original sin," this is representative of each person's free will, and the choices we each make in our spiritual life. | By Rt. Rev. Peter M. King Saul and his pitifully small army were nothing compared to the Philistine invaders. Even worse the only weapons they had were two swords, one for Saul and one for his son, Jonathan. Saul apparently thought it was hopeless, but Jonathan had a different response—one that the Lord would like to inspire in us in challenging times. | By Rev. Eric H. Worship Service: Sermon only - October 15, 2017
When the Lord says He will come or do something "quickly" He means that He will come or do something certainly. How does knowing this help us develop two important spiritual disciplines: Patience & Persistence. | By Rev. Matthew L. Genzlinger | West Concord, MAHealing Spiritual Blindness
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - September 24, 2017
This Sunday we're going to be looking closely at an amazing story of the Lord healing a man who was blind from birth. It's an amazing story because the Lord did an amazing miracle but also because it's clearly also about people who are spiritually unable or unwilling to see. With the help of this story we're going to try to understand how we might be spiritually blind and how the Lord can heal us and help us to see in a new way. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAOpening The Door to Heaven
Worship Service: Family (may include music) - April 30, 2017
This morning we are having a family service, which means that the children are invited to stay for the entire service. The talk will be directed mainly to the children, but will include a message that we can all benefit from. In the book of Revelation the Lord gives messages to seven churches. Today we will read the message He gives to the church in Philadelphia. In this message the Lord speaks of an open door that no one is able to shut. According to the Heavenly Doctrines, we always have the choice to either open a door that leads to hell, or a door that leads to heaven. How doe we open the door that leads to heaven? How do we keep the door that leads to hell shut? In the message to the church in Philadelphia the Lord explains why He is able to place before them an open door to heaven: 1. Because you have little power: You know you can do nothing from yourself. 2. Because you have kept My Word: You live according to the Lord's commandments. 3. Because you have not denied My Name: You are in the worship of the Lord. Everyday you have the choice to either open a doorway that leads to hell, or a doorway that leads to heaven. Which will you choose? Recitation: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him, and he with Me." The Lord teaches us that when visit the prisoner we visit Him. We can do this physically and spiritually. We visit the spiritual prisoner by maintaining connections with people who are convinced of their ideas regardless of God's Word. The Lord's freeing the captives symbolize His freeing people to think from truth. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAThe Lord Needs Us to Ask
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - July 31, 2016
The Lord is willing and wanting to give us good gifts. Because He does not want to force them on us, He needs us to ask. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAHeroes - Doing What's Required
Worship Service: Childrens Talk & Adult Sermon - June 05, 2016
A common theme with people who perform heroic acts is that they say they were just doing their job. It is heroic in many circumstances to do what is required of us. We all have that calling to heroic obligation and spiritually we have to step into doing what's required by the Lord, especially when it is hard. | By Rev. Derrick Lumsden | Sarver, PAAs We Also Forgive Our Debtors
Worship Service: Sermon only - June 05, 2016
Have you ever wondered why people in the New Church say the Lord's prayer a bit differently from a lot of other churches? One of the differences is that we say, "and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors." Do you know what that means? How are debts different from trespasses? This sermon puts them in context. | By Rev. Malcolm G. Smith | Westville, RSAOut of Negative Influences, Into Freedom
Worship Service: Sermon only - April 24, 2016
This message looks at both the positive and the negative spiritual influences that affect our lives. We only experience true spiritual freedom when we allow the Lord to shut off the negative influences and we start to be influenced by Him alone via heaven and His angels. | By Rev. Garry B. Many of us understand that spiritual growth is a long, slow process, and that change doesn't happen overnight. But sometimes it seems like we're not moving at all, and sometimes it even seems like we are moving backwards. How can we find the trust and strength to continue waiting for the Lord when it seems like we have already been waiting for so long? | By Rev. Coleman S. Glenn | Westville, RSA
